An aneurysm can be characterized by its location, shape, and cause. The shape of an aneurysm is described as being fusiform or saccular, which helps to identify a true aneurysm. The more common fusiform-shaped aneurysm bulges or balloons out on all sides of the blood vessel. A saccular-shaped aneurysm bulges or balloons out only on one side. Venous malformations of the jugular veins are rare findings. Aneurysms and phlebectasias are the lesions most often reported. We report on an adult patient with an abruptly appearing large tumorous mass on the left side of the neck identified as a jugular vein aneurysm.

Smaller aneurysms ranging from 3-5 cm are most often followed up by ultrasound to monitor for any increase in width or for the development of complications. The ultrasound definition of extracranial carotid artery aneurysms (ECCAs) is unclear. The threshold diameter to use for defining an extracranial carotid artery as aneurysmal is still debated.

Patients will be watched by their vascular surgeon and will have an ultrasound every 6-12 month to monitor for aneurysm growth and rupture risk. 2. Smoking cessation – your vascular surgeon will ask you to find a smoking cessation program as smoking only increases likelihood of aneurysmal growth.

Notice the images below and how only the anterior abdominal aorta is involved with a saccular appearance in the long axis. The borders of the eccentric fusiform aneurysm blend into the aortic wall, whereas there is a defect or neck where the saccular aneurysm arises from the aortic wall (see Fig. 24.9).

Objective: To discuss the characteristics of saccular neck venous aneurysm on color duplex sonography. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 12 cases of saccular neck venous aneurysm confirmed by either venogram or surgical pathology. Clinical information, physical exam of the neck, and characteristics of saccular neck venous aneurysm on color Doppler sonography (CDUS) were analyzed.

The aorta is the largest blood vessel in the body. Sometimes your aorta’s walls weaken what is called an aortic aneurysm.

CASE REPORT blood flow could not be determined because the ultrasound unit lacked Doppler capability. Arteriography demonstrated a saccular aneurysm in the distal right common carotid artery just proximal to the carotid bifurcation (Figure 2).

A brain aneurysm is a weak spot or bulge in a brain blood vessel. It can happen to anyone at any age, but it's more common in people over age 40. Higher rates of aneurysms are seen in women than men, according to Web MD.

Ultrasound is a useful modality to quickly assess the aorta for the presence of an aneurysm, or arterial dissection, and to determine the relative risk of impending rupture.

Introduction: Saccular aneurysms are thought to have a worse prognosis than fusiform aneurysms in humans, due to hemodynamic reasons. However, data comparing hemodynamic and biology in saccular and fusiform aneurysms are lacking. The main objective was to evaluate the impact of aneurysm morphology on intra-luminal thrombus (ILT) formation and activity. Methods: Forty Lewis rats were …
